Web DesignCómo evaluar la calidad (QA) de su página web

🧪 How to Evaluate Your Website’s Quality (QA) Before Launch

Your web developer has just delivered a brand new, beautiful website and asks you for a final review before going live. What should you check?

Even though a good development agency performs its own quality assurance (QA) audit, it’s always a good idea to review the site yourself with a critical eye. After all, this will be the digital face of your business—it needs to meet expectations.

🔍 What should you review?

  • 🎯 Accuracy compared to the original design: compare the approved design with the final version. Were colors, fonts, sizes, spacing, and effects respected? Any adjustments should have been discussed and approved. Nothing should come as a surprise.
  • 🖼️ Images: make sure images are sharp, free of watermarks, properly cropped, and have enough spacing around them. A poorly placed image can damage the overall perception of the site.
  • ✍️ Content: check that all pages are present, with well-written text and no spelling or grammar errors. A single mistake can affect user trust.
  • 🧭 Menus and links: click on every menu item and link (internal, external, PDFs, email links). Make sure they work correctly, lead to the right destination, and open as intended (same tab or new tab).
  • 📨 Forms: fill out forms as if you were a real user. Make sure all fields work properly, that you receive submissions in your email, and that the experience feels smooth.
  • 🌐 Cross-browser compatibility: check how your site looks in different browsers (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge). Some styles may break in less common browsers, so it’s important to ensure everything works well in the most widely used ones.
  • 📜 Privacy policy: your website should include a privacy policy, especially if you collect personal data. Make sure it’s present and appropriate for the type of information you gather.
  • 💳 Functional testing (if ecommerce): if your site includes a shopping cart or payment gateway, complete a real purchase to test the system. Make sure you receive the confirmation and that the payment is processed correctly. You can refund yourself afterward.

🔎 One important exception: internal search

The search function may not work immediately after development. It often depends on Google indexing your site, which only happens once the site is live. This is normal. After launching, test the search again in the following days or weeks to ensure it’s working properly.

⚖️ Excellence vs. perfection

Your website will never be completely “finished.” It’s a living tool that will grow and evolve along with your business. Don’t aim for absolute perfection—aim for excellence, functionality, clarity, and a professional presentation.

💡 A wise web developer once said: “If your new site is as good as or better than your current one… just launch it!”

With this checklist, you’ll be able to confidently evaluate your website’s quality before going live. And if you find something that can be improved, it’s always better to fix it now than later.
